Sol Archer

Oct 2015 to Jan 2016
Verenigd Koninkrijk, woont en werkt in Rotterdam

Sol Archer is invited by the School of Missing Studies to work with the Lodgers program at the MuKHA and AIR Antwerpen. During this residency Sol Archer expands a film work made in Rotterdam, which focusses on the aesthetics of international automated capital, worker protests, tourism, and move around the peripheries of the newly built and almost entirely depopulated harbours.

Through working across video, installation, photography and performance and by using expanded documentary research strategies to investigate sites or events through which the intersections of local narratives and global powers lens themselves. Primarily exhibiting video installation Sol used a mix of archival material, interview, filmed footage, and scripted performance looking at the perpetuation of behaviour, memory, aesthetics, and creation of identity and narrative through shared events.

The works of Sol Archer were shown in the following exhibitions (a selection): Art Streams, RAM Foundation, Rotterdam, 2015; High Rise, Hofpoort, Rotterdam, 2015; November Complex, Rotterdam, 2015; Rescue, University of California gallery, Santa Barbara, 2015; Sydney Biennial 2014, Sydney. 2014; Domus MMXIV, EYE EYE, London, 2014; Cairo Video Festival, Cairo, 2014; Action Field Kodra, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Greece, 2014; FOTKUU LOPETAMINE, Erinevate Tubade Klubi, Tallin, 2013; Wendell Open Your Door, Cafe Gallery Projects, London, 2013; AAG Curating the Cosmos, American Association of Geographers, Las Vegas, 2013.
