Marnie Slater

Jan 2019 to Jun 2019
1980 Born in Aotearoa, New Zealand, lives and works in Brussels

Marnie Slater is invited for a residency of six months, three months in Antwerp and three in Prague, together with artist Matej Pavlik. This residency is part of the annual exchange program between AIR Antwerpen and MeetFactory Prague.

Marnie’s work engages with multiple formats, including sculpture, writing, performance, painting and installation. Collaboration takes an important role in the development of her projects. Marnie Slater examine the deliciously slippery lives of languages, genders and bodies. She did this recently by initiating the temporary exhibition space and bar Mothers & Daugthers: A Lesbian Bar, in a former oyster restaurant in Brussels. In her performances Marnie Slaters departs a.o. from literary research and historic symbols to excavate the current status of gender and the body. Alongside her solo activities, Marnie is part of the All the Cunning Stunts, co-curator of Buenos Tiempos Int., co-editor of Girls Like Us magazine, and an occasional editor of books. Marnie graduated with her MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam in 2010, and was a core tutor for the Master of Voice program at the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam (2016–18).
