Liesbet Grupping

Nov 2016 to Feb 2017
1984 woont en werkt in Antwerpen

Together with artist Pierre Clement Liesbet Grupping is invited for a residency of four months in AIR Antwerpen and Artistes-en-Résidence Clermont-Ferrand. The Résidence Croisée residency allows collaboration because two months are spent togeter, one month in every residency.

In her artistic practice Liesbet Grupping continuously explores the borders of photography. Through the (unusual) use of photographic materials, f.e. planting a dia slide in a flowerpot; walking around with a pinhole camera or opening a JPG-file with Microsoft Word, Liesbet Grupping creates images that question the codes of photography. These images do not only question but also lay bare the wealth of the photographic visual language. Through methodes of deconstruction Liesbet Grupping constructs new images, invoking questions about process and the portrayed.

Liesbet Grupping received her master in visual arts (photograpy) in 2009 at LUCA School of Arts, Brussels and her master of Research in Art and Design at St Lucas University College of Arts and Design, Antwerp in 2011. Her work was shown in the following exhibitions: The Gods Must Be Crazy – Part Photography (Roeselaere & Heist-op-Berg), Maison Particulière, Brussels; Galerie Martin Van Blerk, Antwerp; Frans Masereel Centrum, Kasterlee; FoMu, Antwerp and the Flemish Cultural House De Brakke Grond, Amsterdam. She published her work at .tiff, 2011 and <H>ART, 2011. Since 2014 Liesbet Grupping also works collaboratively. With Post from Hessdalen she created the theaterplay Poolnacht, which tours internationally.
