Ghislain Amar

Jan 2016 to Mar 2016
1984 ° Montpellier, lives and works in Rotterdam

Ghislain Amar was invited for a residency of three months in AIR_Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main in the framework of the exchange – and exhibition project Staat van de Stad/ State of the City/ Zustand der Stadt. During his residency Ghislain Amar worked on a new project, which will be presented in the group exhibition at basis e.v. Frankfurt am Main, opening Thursday 13 October 2016.

The work of Ghislain Amar is structured by a sculptural and photographic practice. Amar seeks to find operations through which artworks can synthesize and narrate places through their current cultural and social context. He proposes interrelations between aspects of such contexts and bring them into installations that question notions of indentity of a place, community and belonging. Ghislain's work both documents places and strives to open up new hypothesis about them.

Ghislain Amar graduated at the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier. Ghislain Amar was invited for the following exhibitions (a selection): Peach @ W139, Amsterdam, 2016; New Bretagne Belle Air, Essen, 2016; Swimming Pool, Sofia, 2015; Super in Position, November Complex, Rotterdam 2015; The Peet Market, Piet Zwart Institute, 2014. The Group, Rollaversion Gallery, London, 2014; Letter from the useless spectator, Hobusepea Galleri, Tallinn, 2013.
