Elvia Teotski

Oct 2018 to Nov 2018
2018 born in Toulouse, lives and works in Marseille

Elvia Teotski is invited for a residency of four months in the framework of the annual exchange between AIR Antwerpen and Artistes-en-Residence Clermont-Ferrand, together with Belgian based artist Pepa Ivanova. The residency takes place two months in AIR Antwerpen and two months in Clermont-Ferrand.

The background of Elvia Teotski in agricultural science formed the starting point for her artistic practice. It can be considered a ‘cultural’ appreciation of ‘natural’ phenomena. Elvia Teotski sees herself as archaeologist of organic materiology. The substances she works with - sugar, wafer paper, agar-agar, gelatin - fluctuate between the living matter of their origins and a synthetic look. These are substances which industry turns into cooking products and which we have all ingested at a certain moment. Being organic, they are particularly sensitive to changes in the weather: this endows them with a certain plasticity - they can be moulded and sculpted - as well as extreme fragility when temperature and humidity conditions get tricky.

Elvia Teotski was invited for the following solo exhibitions (a selection): Artothèque Antonin Artaud, Marseille, 2018; La Galerie, Montpellier, 2018; FRAC PACA hors les murs, Vitrolles, 2018; Le lieu multiple, Montpellier, 2017; Galerie du Globe, Toulon, 2015. Her works were shown in the following group exhibitions (a selection: Galerie ZAN, 2018; Villa Arson, Nice, 2017; Bel Ordinaire, Pau, 2017; Festival Oeil d’Oodaaq, Rennes et Nantes, 2016; Friche Belle de Mai, Marseille, 2015; Espace d’art Concret, Mouans-Sartoux, 2014; BJCEM, Ancona, 2013.
