Michael Fliri

May 2011 to Sep 2011
1978 Italy

Michael Fliri has been invited by OHNO COOPERATION in AIR Antwerpen for a residency and a performance at the OPEN AIR #5 festival.

Michael Fliri’s work finds itself between on the border between performance, sculpture and video. In Come Out and Play With Me (2004) we see a person wearing a special costume starting as a pig and transforming into a sheep to end up in a pig again. The film is recorded in one take in an empty studio. These notions of change, maskerade and metamorphosis come back regularly in his projects. In Image, image do what you want (2006) a sculpture changes in four different types of houses, helped by the artist to undergo these changes. The artist appears in his work but in a depersonalized, mutated way, unknown to the audience, playing a very specific personage. In From the Forbidden Zone (2009) he disguises himself in a creature between animal and science-fiction character. Here it’s his stare that reveals his energy and presence and builds up a tension with the public.

Michael Fliri was invited for the following solo exhibitions: 0O°°°oo0Oo°O0, Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato 2011; Name it as you feel it, Art dans la Cité, Parijs, 2009; Getting too old to die young, Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan, 2008; Gravity, Eurac, Projectroom Museion, Bolzano, 2007.
