Kato Six

Dec 2013 to Mar 2014
1986 Brussels

Kato Six is invited for a residency of four months, together with French artist Mathilde Du Sordet, who is also currently in residency at AIR Antwerpen. This period of four months exists out of 1 month in Antwerp and three months in Artistes-en-Résidence Clermont-Ferrand, the partner organisation of this exchange project.

The works of Kato Six consists of architectural constructions, constructed of forms and objects. These incorporate abstract fragments of personal memories. These memories are partly activated by coincidences, but also by selecting images from family scrapbooks and other documents. These together with the immediate influence of the surrounding space are part of the final construction. Such a presentation during an exhibition is temporary and never an end product of work process. These forms and objects change in an endless chain reaction.

Kato Six was invited for the following solo exhibitions (a selection): Focus Moves Aside, Objects Appear, WIELS project room, Brussels, 2012; Shape Your Memory, SECONDroom, Ghent, 2011; A Backyard Journey, P/////AKT, Amsterdam, 2011. Her work was also shown in the following group exhibitions (a selection): Hijacking Karma (in a positive way), Oude Kerk, Amsterdam, 2013; Forms Hell to Pieces, Het Paviljoen, Ghent, 2013; Unfolding, Galerie Paul Andriesse, Amsterdam, 2012; Crox 362, Croxhapox, Ghent, 2011; Protection, The Forgotten Bar, Berlin, 2010.
