Juha Pekka Matias Laakkonen

Apr 2014 to May 2014
2014 Lives and works in Sweden

Juha Pekka Matias Laakkonen is invited for a residency of two months in collaboration with M HKA. During this period Juha Laakkonen is developing a new project for the exhibition ‘Don’t you know who I am? – Art after Identity Politics’.

The work of Juha Pekka Matias Laakkonen exists in many forms, depending on the process he’s working with. The process of how his work comes into being is very important in the conception of the final art work. His process contains different phases of development that can overbridge long periods of time. They include repetitive everyday actions as well as handcrafts actions such as sewing, weaving and knitting. For example for the art work ‘Walking from Yakutsk to Helsinki in 5.3 Million Steps’(2010), in which he walked the 5004 km distance between the cities Yakutsk (Eastern Russia) and Helsinki on self made reindeer boots.
