Danilo Correale

Jan 2011 to Jul 2011
1981 lives and works in Italy

Danilo Correale was invited by curator Matteo Luchetti within the framework of the project Enacting Populism. The research period took place in AIR Antwerpen with a final presentation after a second residency in Kadist Art Foundation, Paris.

The research of Danilo Correale focuses on particular social archives considered of lower value, in order to disclose little-known information to the public whilst highlighting the power structures that exist within specific historical contexts. The manner in which the flow of images is placed within a given display is a central element in the Correale's practices, this permitting a fitting sense of storytelling. Freed from the danger of potential marketing and de-legitimized, the documents utilized in the construction of the works are to serve as central elements for a continuous and strategic "detournement".

Danilo Correale was invited for the following solo exhibitions (a selection):  Mosh Pit Control, Galleria Raucci Santamaria, Naples, 2012; Manifesta 8, Murcia, 2010; Pist Artist Run Space, 2011. His work was also shown in the following group exhibitions (a selection): Practicing Memory – In a Time of an All-Encompassing Present, Cittadellarte - Pistoletto Foundation, Biella, 2010; Give and Take, Via Farini, Milan, 2010; SI – Sindrome Italiana, Magasin, Grenoble, 2010; and We Do It, Kunstraum Lakeside, Klagenfurt, 2009.
