Dec 2016 to Feb 2017
1991 Nivelles, lives and works in Stoumont

AIR Antwerpen invited Nicolas Valckenaere for a residency of three months in AIR Antwerpen and participates in The Living Room XL.

In his works Nicolas Valckenaere is in- spired by the Wild West and its fantastic image created by comic books, films and travelogues. In the form of an abandoned barn in the town of Stoumont Nicolas Valckenaere found the ideal context to incorporate the role of the pioneer. Among its 50 inhabitants Nicolas Valckenaere is a foreign artist, changing the shed into a house. He transforms practical elements such as doors and a bedroom unit into parts of a new visual language. The shed is also a studio where Nicolas Valckenaere works with text, video, photography, installation and sculpture.

Nicolas Valckenaere graduated at ERG Brussels in 2016. His works were shown in the following exhibitions (a selection): Agenda, Centre d’art Chapelle Jeanne d’Arc, Thouars, 2016; Parcours IN, Tourinnes-la-Grosses, 2016; I like it raw, in the framework of the solo exhibition by David Evrard, Arnaud Deschin Galerie, Parijs, 2016. Next to this Nicolas Valckenaere is one of the editors of the magazine Missouri.
